HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS PARTICIPATE IN BETHANIA CHORAL WORKSHOP AT BETHANY COLLEGE

October 6, 2022

The Bethany College Department of Music welcomed over 300 high school students early Thursday, Sept. 29, to the Bethania Choral Workshop.

The objective of the Bethania Choral Workshop, which began in 2005, is to prepare high school students for the Kansas Music Educators Association All-State auditions. This year's audition music included "Alleluia" by Jake Runestad, "Music Down in My Soul" by Moses Hogan, and "Lamentations of Jeremiah" by Z. Randall Stroope.

Nineteen schools were in attendance, including nearby Abilene, Bennington, Buhler, Central Plains in Claflin, Salina Central, Smoky Valley in Lindsborg, Inman, and Tescott High School.

Many traveled more than two hours for the 8 am registration, including Caney Valley, Thunder Ridge in Kensington, Royal Valley in Hoyt, Seaman High School in Topeka, and Ness City High School.

Others in attendance were Council Grove, Concordia, Rock Hills in Mankato, Ellis, Sylvan-Lucas in Sylvan Grove, and Derby High School.

Seaman High School Chorus Director Randy Bond says, "This is my third choral workshop at Bethany College. Several workshops are closer to Topeka, but my students love the experience here. In the last year, thirteen of my singers made it into the district choir and two to the state choir. This event is huge for my kids."
