THE BETHANY COLLEGE ART STUDENTS ATTEND THE LIGHTBOX EXPO

November 18, 2022

LINDSBORG, KS. NOV. 21, 2022 - Five Bethany College students attended the Lightbox Expo (LBX) in Pasadena, Calif., last month with faculty members Sara Mathia, Assistant Professor of Art, Kerrigan Guthrie, Assistant Lecturer of Art, and Chad Moore, Director of Path to your Purpose. A presidential grant made this trip possible for art students as part of the Path to your Purpose initiative.

Franco Hernandez, a Video Game Design major from Uruguay, said, "It made me take a step back and look at the industry from another perspective. By watching other people's work, I learned a lot about the process of making digital art."

LBX connects aspiring artists with the creators behind films, animation, games, TV shows, and illustrations. The conference lasted three days with approximately 30,000 people from around the world. The conference included demos, portfolio reviews, and job interviews with top artists and studios.

"I have learned that these trips are extremely important to our students. It gives them an entirely new perspective when they get to see what the actual industry is like, experience networking with fellow artists and industry leaders," says Mathia.

This opportunity also allows students to learn or update their knowledge with new processes and technologies in the art, animation, and game industries.
