ATHLETIC HALL OF HONOR INDUCTION CEREMONY

LINDSBORG - On Sunday, October 4 at 1 pm, the Bethany College Department of Athletics is hosting the first-ever virtual Athletic Hall of Honor ceremony. The event is typically celebrated with an awards luncheon, but due to COVID-19, the celebration was forced to switch to virtual format. Friends, family, and Swedes supporters can tune in to the event via Facebook Live on Sunday, October 4 at 1 pm, via the Bethany College Athletics Facebook.


The virtual celebration will feature a welcome from President Dr. Elizabeth Mauch, and will be emceed by Head Women's Basketball Coach/Assistant Athletic Director Keith Ferguson. 


This event gives recognition to individuals whose performance on the athletic field during their time at Bethany was noteworthy and exemplary of the high standards for which Bethany College has historically been known.


The individual selected shall have been a former student-athlete or letter winner, a former coach, or an individual who was significantly involved in Bethany College athletics.


For student-athletes, the last year of participation in athletics shall have been at least eight years before selection into the Hall of Honor. Selection for membership shall be determined by the quality and caliber of athletic performance and by the individual's contribution to the team concept of athletic endeavor through leadership as cited by the coaches and teammates involved.


The 2020 inductees into the Bethany College Hall of Honor are:


Lisa (Runnebaum) Kidd, Volleyball, Class of 2009


Ronny Mitchell, Men's Basketball, Class of 2005


Brian Darden, Football, Class of 1996


Terry Drake, Cross Country/Track & Field, attended Bethany 1976-1977


The 2020 Coach of the Year award winners are:


John Bellah, Class of 1986


Jay Myers, Class of 1976


The 2020 Bethany Athletic Association Award of Merit recipient:

Bethany College conferred degrees upon 99 students in Presser Hall Auditorium on April 27, 2024. The ceremony honored students who earned Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Music, and Bachelor of Music Education from the college during the 2023-2024 academic year. Summer, fall, and spring graduates were honored during a Baccalaureate worship service at 10:30 a.m. in Presser Hall, followed by Commencement at 2 p.m. Campus Pastor Melissa Woeppel led the Baccalaureate Service, and Rev. Lamont Wells, Executive Director of the Network of Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) and Co llege and Universities (NECU). Gracelyn Gaskill '24, a chemistry and music major from Lindsborg, Kansas, provided special music for Commencement. Senior class speakers Inioluwa "Enoch" Ojo '24, a biology major from Katy, Texas, and Benjamin "Ben" Turner '24, a History and Political Science Major from Peyton, Colorado, gave thoughtful remarks on their time at Bethany College, taking time to thank their friends, faculty, and coaches. Dr. Brent Mai '85, Dean of University Libraries at Wichita State University, gave the commencement address, encouraging this year's graduates to go out into the world and exercise the four tenets of stoicism: wisdom, courage, temperance, and justice.

Interim President Steve Eckman commended the efforts of the faculty and staff in securing the grant, stating, "We are immensely grateful to the McPherson County Community Foundation for their incredible generosity. This grant will benefit our students and enrich the educational experiences available in the Smoky Valley community."

The newly appointed Presidential Search Committee will commence their work immediately, aiming to recommend a candidate for Bethany College's 16th president to the board by the April 2025 board meeting.
