BETHANY COLLEGE EXPANDS SUMMER YOUTH SPORTS OPPORTUNITIES THROUGH LINDSBORG RECREATION PARTNERSHIP AND CAMPUS SKILLS CAMPS

June 3, 2026

Partnership provides local youth with opportunities to learn, compete, and connect through golf, basketball, and volleyball camps led by Bethany coaches and student-athletes

LINDSBORG, Kan. June 3, 2026 - Bethany College is partnering with the Lindsborg Recreation Department this summer to offer local children opportunities to learn, play, and grow through youth sports camps led by Bethany coaches and student-athletes. In addition to the Lindsborg Recreation partnership, Bethany College athletic teams will host additional youth sports opportunities on campus for students interested in building their skills with college coaches and players.

Lindsborg Recreation is dedicated to providing quality recreation programs and leisure activities that enhance the quality of life for all citizens in the community. Through this partnership, Bethany College coaches and student-athletes will help extend that mission by sharing their skills, leadership, and love of the game with young people across Lindsborg and the surrounding area.

“Lindsborg Recreation is excited to partner with Bethany College to give local children more opportunities to be active, learn new skills, and connect with positive role models in our community,” said Lauren Doak, Director of Lindsborg Recreation. “Having Bethany coaches and student-athletes involved makes these programs even more meaningful for our kids and families.”

This summer’s Lindsborg Recreation partnership offerings include Youth Golf with Bethany College golf coach Zach Able and a Bethany Women’s Basketball Camp led by new head coach Mickey DeVries and student players.

Youth Golf with Bethany College Golf Coach Zach Able will introduce students to the rules and basics of golf at the Lindsborg Golf Course. Coach Able leads the Bethany Swedes golf team, whose men’s team finished as runner-up at this year's KCAC Championships, while the women finished fourth. Clubs can be provided if needed. The camp features two groups; 5 year old through incoming 2nd grade July 6-10, and incoming 3rd through 8th grade July 13-16, with both a beginner's session and advanced session. A tournament for participants in grades 3–8 will take place July 17. Registration ends July 2, 2026 and is available on lindsborgrec.org.

Bethany Women’s Basketball Camp will give Lindsborg children a chance to learn basketball basics from the Bethany College women’s basketball staff and student players, fresh from their strong run to the KCAC playoffs this spring. The three-day camp July 14-16 will include instruction, skill-building, and fun games. A camp shirt is included.

This co-ed basketball camp has two groups; incoming 1st through 3rd grades and incoming 4th through 6th grade. The cost is $30, and the camp will take place in Hahn Gymnasium on the Bethany College campus. Registration ends July 8, 2026 and is available on lindsborgrec.org.

Bethany College is also hosting additional summer sports opportunities for local youth on campus. The Bethany College Volleyball Team, under the leadership of new head coach Deedra Woodbury, will host youth skills camps June 30 and July 1 in Hahn Gym on the Bethany College campus. Camps for students in kindergarten through 5th grade and 6th through 8th grade will be held June 30. Cost is $75 per athlete. The high school skills camp for students in grades 9–12 will be held July 1. Cost is $150 per athlete. Registration for both June 30 and July. For registration and questions, please contact Coach Woodbury at woodburydm@bethanylb.edu.

“At Bethany, athletics is about more than competition. It is about leadership, discipline, belonging, and service,” said Laura Moreno, Dean of Athletics at Bethany College. “These summer camps give our coaches and student-athletes a chance to invest in local children, build relationships with families, and strengthen the connection between Bethany College and the Lindsborg community.”

“Bethany College is proud to partner with Lindsborg Recreation and to open our campus to young people across the community this summer,” said Dr. Laura Crawley, President of Bethany College. “Our coaches and student-athletes have so much to offer, not only in teaching the fundamentals of sport, but also in modeling teamwork, confidence, resilience, and joy. This is exactly the kind of town-and-college partnership that makes Lindsborg and Bethany stronger together.”
