BETHANY COLLEGE'S 2023 MESSIAH FESTIVAL OF THE ARTS ANNOUNCES FREE PUBLIC EVENTS

Bethany College proudly announces the 2023 Messiah Festival of the Arts on March 27-April 10. The festival will include an awards reception, lectures, recitals, and other free events celebrating the college's annual performance of Handel's "Messiah."


The Juried Student Art Exhibition will run from March 27-April 10 in Mingenback Art Center on the college's campus. An awards reception will be held on Palm Sunday, April 2, at 2 pm. 


On Monday, April 3 at 7 pm, Mark Lucas, Associate Professor of Music, Artistic Director, and Conductor of the Messiah Festival of the Arts, will present 'Chasing History: A Conversation about the Many Editions of Handel's "Messiah"' at Pearson Chapel. Concurrent with this presentation will be an event for children ages 4-12. “Chalk Talk for Kids: The Lord is My Shepherd,” by Shelly Carlson, will be held in the Mabee Welcome Center for parents attending “Chasing History.” Please RSVP to Carol Gusenius at guseniusc@gmail.com to reserve space. 


The Messiah Festival Soloists will also present a recital on Tuesday, April 4, at 7:30 pm at Messiah Lutheran Church Sanctuary. The soloists are Julianne Davis, soprano; JoAna Rusche, mezzo-soprano; Gene Stenger, tenor; and Nicholas Skotzko, baritone. A reception will follow at the Sandzen Art Gallery.

 

The Messiah Festival Student Honors Recital will be held on Thursday, April 6, at 2:30 pm in the Pearson Chapel, to showcase selected student performers from the Bethany College Music Department. Performers will include Gracelyn Gaskill, soprano; Raleigh Jarrett, violin; Christian LaCount, tenor; Grace Ladner, organ; Nikolas Lampman Thompson, guitar; Aubrey Larson, mezzo-soprano; Ariana Nunez, french horn; Keely Tubbs, soprano; and Justin Woolsey, percussion.

Congratulations 2024 Graduates

Bethany College conferred degrees upon 99 students in Presser Hall Auditorium on April 27, 2024. The ceremony honored students who earned Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Music, and Bachelor of Music Education from the college during the 2023-2024 academic year. Summer, fall, and spring graduates were honored during a Baccalaureate worship service at 10:30 a.m. in Presser Hall, followed by Commencement at 2 p.m. Campus Pastor Melissa Woeppel led the Baccalaureate Service, and Rev. Lamont Wells, Executive Director of the Network of Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) and Co llege and Universities (NECU). Gracelyn Gaskill '24, a chemistry and music major from Lindsborg, Kansas, provided special music for Commencement. Senior class speakers Inioluwa "Enoch" Ojo '24, a biology major from Katy, Texas, and Benjamin "Ben" Turner '24, a History and Political Science Major from Peyton, Colorado, gave thoughtful remarks on their time at Bethany College, taking time to thank their friends, faculty, and coaches. Dr. Brent Mai '85, Dean of University Libraries at Wichita State University, gave the commencement address, encouraging this year's graduates to go out into the world and exercise the four tenets of stoicism: wisdom, courage, temperance, and justice.

Bethany College Receives Grant from McPherson County Community Foundation to Launch Cadaver Dissection Program

Interim President Steve Eckman commended the efforts of the faculty and staff in securing the grant, stating, "We are immensely grateful to the McPherson County Community Foundation for their incredible generosity. This grant will benefit our students and enrich the educational experiences available in the Smoky Valley community."

Bethany College Announces Selection of Presidential Search Committee Members

The newly appointed Presidential Search Committee will commence their work immediately, aiming to recommend a candidate for Bethany College's 16th president to the board by the April 2025 board meeting.
