MITCHELL SELECTED AS INAUGURAL ESPORTS COACH AT BETHANY

LINDSBORG - Bethany College Dean of Athletics Laura Moreno '07 did not have to go far to find the man tasked with starting the schools new Esports program. After a national search Dean of Athletics Moreno has announced the selection of Lindsborg resident and Bethany College alum Blake Mitchell '18. 

Mitchell has worked in various roles in the technology and engineering fields since completing his Bachelors of Science Degree in Chemistry and Biology. Mitchell is also the co-owner of Simbolic Gaming, a successful Esports organization that competes across various titles. Simbolic Gaming has won two championships and earned a second place finish across three Esports titles. As part of his duties with Simbolic Gaming, Mitchell manages the organizations rosters, negotiates contracts with players, and ensures that all member of the organization adhere to their membership requirements.

Additionally, Mitchell serves as a mentor to a group of eighteen aspiring live-streamers and content creators. Helping them build on their Esports success by building supportive fan bases through content creation. Through his work with Simbolic Gaming Mitchell has been instrumental in securing partnerships with sponsors to help provide support for their competition teams.

"I'm incredibly excited to introduce Bethany College to the world of Esports. I've developed a passion for both competing in and leading competitive Esports over the past ten years, and I could not be happier to see the world of Esports expanding into both the Bethany College Campus and Lindborg Community," added Blake Mitchell. "I could not have imagined an opportunity like this when I graduated from Bethany College in 2018, and I'm so humbled that I'm able to bring my greatest passion to my alma mater. It is an honor and a privilege to be able to lead the team that kicks off the Swedes Esports program."

Coach Mitchell will spend this year focusing on finalizing preparations on the new Esports arena and recruiting team members before the program begins competitive play during the 2021-2022 Academic year.

The Bethany College Criminal Justice Department recently hosted a tabletop exercise aimed at enhancing preparedness for an active threat scenario on the college campus. The event, which took place on April 5, saw participation from various stakeholders including college representatives, Lindsborg city officials, and key figures from surrounding areas such as Ellsworth County, McPherson County, Bethany Home, Smoky Valley USD400, and the Lindsborg Community Hospital.
