Biography 
Gretchen Norland is a Professor of Education and the Coordinator of Secondary Education at Bethany. She has taught in Bethany College’s Education Department and supervised student teachers since 2012. Norland received a Doctorate in Education (Ed.D.) from North Central University and a Master of Arts in Education from Baker University. Norland is a 1979 Bethany graduate with a Bachelor of Arts in English Education, a minor in Psychology, and 32 years of teaching experience in public schools. She is also a certified ESOL instructor. She chaired the Teacher Education Coordinators and Bethany Teacher Education Advisory Council while serving as department chair from 2017-2022. Norland was recognized as a future leader of Kansas in Higher Education by KICA Aspiring Campus Leaders Academy in 2019. She has served on several college committees and organizations focused on assessment, curriculum, and continuous program improvement. In 2024, Norland will be serving as the President of Faculty Senate. Norland has a passion for preparing and mentoring preservice teachers as they develop the knowledge, skills, and professional attitudes and behaviors for effectively working with children.
